How (and Why) Pregame Members are Thriving Despite Covid Business Disruption

There’s plenty of doom and gloom out there right now, and we’re well aware of the losses and challenges that business owners and pros are experiencing.

However, there’s a lot to be hopeful about. While our members have definitely experienced drops in revenue, closures, and delays, they’re also experiencing a new level of connectedness and clarity about why they’re in the game.

Pregame’s core clients are entrepreneurs, creators, and professionals who assume ownership of their own success. That mentality of personal responsibility, innovation, curiosity, and passion for growth was usually around far before their current career chapter. It’s the personality mix that ultimately led them to take the leap into leadership.

And that mentality is paying off. When crisis happens, those traits are exactly what creates a bigger bounce back.

Here’s exactly how – and why – we’re surviving and thriving amidst the current transition:

We Show Up

Instead of staying overwhelmed or numbing out altogether, our members are prioritizing showing up to their weekly Home Team and our new group huddles where we can learn new tactics and adapt our action plans. It’s more than skill building – it’s getting moral support and giving it back to our teammates when they need a boost.

We’re Looking for the Opportunities

Each one of us has experienced business loss, whether it’s revenue, team members, or limited mental capacity to get it all done. After taking time to pause and regroup, we get back to business.

If this time has taught us anything, it’s that there are no guarantees. That’s true in business and in life. It’s up to us to create our own solutions. We’re focusing on what we can do rather than on what we can’t do.

We’re Creating Win-Win Partnerships

Instead of staying siloed and letting the isolation become a way of life, we’ve seen an uptick in creative partnerships between members and among colleagues. Everything is better together, and it’s a great time to adapt or create projects that leverage a team of all-stars.

We Prioritize Our Personal Wellness

In addition to our usual six business goals each month, we’re encouraging our clients to set a personal wellbeing goal. It can be as simple as committing to call one friend each day or taking a walk outside daily. This is easy to do, and so important. And then – this is important – if you miss it, don’t beat up on yourself! Just get back to prioritizing your energy and vitality the next day.

We’re Adapting Our Marketing + Business Development Strategies

The key is adapting quickly and being human. For example, instead of aggressively going out for new leads, we’re reconnecting with previous clients and old colleagues just to check in. We’re quickly updating our web copy and social media messaging.

Pregame has seen an uptick in inquiries for marketing coaching to adapt messaging so that it’s conscious of what people are going through and clarify the value your business offers, no matter what.

We’re Listening to Our Customers

How does your business need to pivot right now? It’s impossible to see things objectively from the inside, which is why our members meet in weekly Home Teams to discuss strategy and goals. But beyond that, we’re talking with our customers or doing informal surveys to see what’s truly needed and appreciated right now.

We’re Careful About What We Put Out in the World

Again, this is a time to be human and to be compassionate; to show empathy for the range of experiences and reactions to what the world is navigating right now. So we’re taking extra care to make sure our communications aren’t tone deaf or overly indulgent.

On the flipside, showing support and optimism – as long as it’s grounded – is vital. That’s why we avoid words like “crisis,” “war,” or “devastated.” That language is anxiety producing and unproductive. As leaders, it’s our job to acknowledge reality and provide a path forward.
