Grayson Cox artist

Grayson Cox is a New York City based artist working in a variety of media, from painting and printmaking, to photography and furniture-like sculpture.

Grayson’s most recent solo and two person exhibitions have been held at Gasser Grunert Gallery and Planthouse Gallery in Manhattan, which have been reviewed in multiple publications including The New York Times, Art in America, Artnet.com and Time Out New York. Grayson is currently an Associate Professor of Fine Arts and the Graduate Printmaking Coordinator at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.

The Speechbuster, commissioned by Storefront with the support of the Rauschenberg Foundation and designed collaboratively by architect Jimenez Lai and artist Grayson Cox, embarks on a journey through a series of stimulating spaces in New York City. For each residency, the performative, multi-function, multi-layer, Storefront gallery-sized table, inserts public debate within private spaces bringing the Storefront programming Series outside of the gallery space.

Grayson received his MFA from Columbia University in 2010. At graduation, he was awarded the Daisy Soros Prize to study in Salzburg, Austria, and was also featured in a show in Tel Aviv, Israel for recent graduates of MFA programs in the United States. He was born in 1979 in Indianapolis, Indiana, received his BFA from Indiana University and spent two years living and working in Tokyo before moving to New York City in 2005.

Grayson is the recipient of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Artistic Innovation and Collaboration grant and has exhibited locally in New York and abroad including, Center for Contemporary Art, Warsaw, Poland; Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Tel Aviv, Israel; The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL; The New Museum, New York, NY; Elizabeth Foundation, New York, NY; The Fisher Landau Center for Art, Queens, NY; Gowanus Studio Space, Brooklyn, NY; Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, Peekskill, NY; and SculptureCenter, Long Island City, NY.
